I use this for so many different activities!
Utilising a resource in various ways can enhance the learning experience and make activities more engaging.
Here are some suggestions on how to use this to teach kids about emotions and coping skills.
- Ask your child to write their name in the middle. On each petal write something they are good at.
- Using strength cards to help, use 3 petals to write 3 strengths the child has and 3 to identify 3 strengths they can work on. Add details such as “I can practice this strength next time I ...”
- Identify 4 kind things they have done in the past week, using one petal for each and write 2 kind things they will do.
- Practise gratitude - on each petal write down something for which the child is grateful.
- Explain to the child that they will be creating a “Feelings Flower”. Each petal will represent a different emotion they feel.
- Ask the child to think about different emotions they ahve felt recently. For each petal they can either write the name or draw the face of the emotion, use the surrounding space to discuss what they did and what they could do differently next time.
